Finding True Confidence as a Young Black Person in the Netherlands
Growing up as a young Black person in the Netherlands can feel like walking in two worlds at the same time. On one side, there’s the Dutch culture we see all around us—straightforward, open, and full of opportunity. On the other side, there’s our own background, our roots, and the experiences that shape how we see ourselves.

It’s no secret that sometimes we don’t always see people who look like us in certain spaces—whether it’s school, work, or even in the media. This can make you wonder: Do I really belong here?
The truth is: yes, you do.

Balancing Culture and Identity
Many young Black people in the Netherlands grow up between cultures. At home, the culture might be warm, loud, funny, and full of history. Outside, things can be more direct, calm, and structured.
Instead of choosing one side, it’s okay to embrace both.
